Unit 2 Reflection

I thoroughly enjoyed this unit as I tied in my piece with things that are very relative to today’s current events and society. The audience that I decided to try and reach were people who only see the shortcomings of all these technological advancements, and also do not look deeper into how some aspects of technology, like social media, are not just for people to post selfies and be shallow, but also be a medium for people to make change, create movements, and allow their voices and stories to be heard when large news corporations are not letting their stories be told. The specific rhetoric language I used was somewhat subtle, but I kept mentioning innovation and bringing my piece back into the perspective of the human race. “Human life has always strived towards innovation. The mind has created things that were at one time, unimaginable, and now society is at a place that is a whirlwind of technology and accessibility of whatever information a person wants, or needs, in an instant. Human life has always striven towards innovation. The mind has created things that were at one time, unimaginable, and now society is at a place that is a whirlwind of technology and accessibility of whatever information a person wants, or needs, in an instant. This innovation of information has led the way to new ideals, values, and a way of life that the world has never seen. I often catch myself thinking about how technological advancements are affecting our society, but I am always conflicted to if it is helping or hurting it. It is connecting the entire world, increasing economies and trade, and giving people voices, who usually do not have one, that they use to share their opinions with anyone who will look or listen, and those are just some of the positives. On the contrary, even though there is an increase in digital connections, it is causing humans to become desensitized, decreasing face to face communication and compassion, and exposing our children to change whatever ...

Unit 2 Freewrites

Image
This free write was meaningful to me because it made me think about the first unit and how I was going to improve in unit 2. It made me think about my decision making towards the unit and what I was going to do differently. This free write was also based upon how, as a class, we all had to have the same Baron source, but everyone used it differently in their papers. I like reflecting on the past work and unit because I like to look over how I did and what I can do differently to benefit myself in the future.

Unit 2 Draft

Human life has always strived towards innovation. The mind has created things that were at one time, unimaginable, and now society is at a place that is a whirlwind of technology and accessibility of whatever information a person wants, or needs, in an instant. This innovation of information has led the way to new ideals, values, and a way of life that the world has never seen. There is social media, a basis for people to post about their lives, and there is more ways to communicate globally than ever before. It is a popular topic to think how technological advancements are affecting our society, but it always seems to come down to one specific argument; is all these technological advancements helping or hurting our civilization . It is connecting the entire world, increasing economies and trade, and giving people voices, who usually do not have one, that they use to share their opinions with anyone who will look or listen, and those are just some of the positives. On the contrary, e...

Unit 2 Library

My personal history with the library is a very love/hate relationship. Whenever I am there, I get a crazy amount of work done, but I also associate it with having a lot of work and being stressed out. I usually go to my room and do a lot of my work in there, but when I have a gigantic work load I go to the library to focus and get my things done quickly with no distractions. I usually get the individual rooms that are on the perimeter of the library, so there are no chances for me to get distracted. My relationship with technology has definitely changed my relationship with the brick and mortar library because I do not go there to check out books very often because I am able to search online databases for scholarly articles, PDFs, and websites that provide the information I need for what is assigned. Being in whitman, they do not ask us to use the library, but instead ask us to use databases. It is kind of sad and nostalgic taking out a book from the library; it reminds me of being in...

Abstract/Pitch

Image
Pitch: I often catch myself thinking about how technological advancements are affecting our society, but I am always conflicted to if it is helping or hurting it. It is connecting the entire world, increasing economies and trade, and giving people voices, who usually do not have one, that they use to share their opinions with anyone who will look or listen, and those are just some of the positives. On the contrary, even though there is an increase in digital connections, it is causing humans to become desensitized, decreasing face to face communication and compassion, and exposing our children to change whatever they want about themselves, whatever they can find on the internet, and allowing them to participate in the fake reality of social media. I would like to pose a pitch that allows to show some virtues and shortcomings of the technological advancements, such as communication, social media, and journalism, our society has generated. It is no surprise that the majority of peo...
